Da Nang has a well-rounded healthcare system comprising 29 public and private general and specialized hospitals. 14 of them cater specifically to tourists. Over the past five years, more than 50,000 foreign visitors have sought medical care at Da Nang’s healthcare facilities.
Mr. Le Tan Thanh Tung, Deputy General Director of the VITRACO Travel-Event-Transportation Company thinks Da Nang should pilot a medical visa policy to attract more international visitors.
Many of the city’s medical facilities have already adapted to the trend by investing in modern medical equipment and upgrading infrastructure to meet international standards. 15 global health insurance companies have signed agreements with Da Nang Hospital, enabling patients from Europe, the Americas, West Asia, and East Asia to have treatment in Da Nang covered by their insurance.
Doctor Le Duc Nhan, Director of Da Nang Hospital, said: "We accept global health insurance plans. This means we’re capable of handling the medical needs of travelers who encounter health issues while vacationing in Da Nang. As a result, the number of foreign patients has increased significantly."
Tran Chi Cuong, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee, affirmed the city's ambition to make medical services a signature tourism product.
"We’re leveraging a combination of Eastern and Western medicine to create high-quality treatment packages. This will be a core offering of Da Nang tourism. We want people to think not just of Singapore, Malaysia, or Thailand for medical tourism, but also of Da Nang as a standout destination," said Cuong.
Under the 2025–2030 Medical Tourism Development Project, Da Nang aims to have at least five medical tourism service packages by the end of 2026 and 80% of local tourist destinations will have staff trained in basic medical skills. In2027, a digital platform for health advice and appointments will be launched to allow tourists to get information and book appointments online. By 2030, the city will establish at least two internationally accredited medical facilities that meet global standards.
