(VOVworld) – People in northern Ha Giang province consider arable land as valuable as gold because most of the local terrain is rocky. Ly Sin Sinh, who is of Mong ethnicity, has donated 300 square meters of his land to build a school for local children. He has also been a pioneer in poverty reduction in Sin Cai commune, Meo Vac district. Lan Anh reports:

(VOVworld) – Associate Professor Nguyen Van Thach is head of the Spinal Surgery Department and Deputy Director of the Viet Duc Hospital in Hanoi. He was the first person to successfully perform robot-assisted spinal surgery in Southeast Asia. He was among the individuals honored at the 11th Glory Vietnam program.

(VOVworld) – Tran Van Xuat was stationed on East Truong Sa island in the Truong Sa archipelago 30 years ago. Since he spent most of his youth on this island, the war veteran decided to build a replica of Vietnam’s maritime sovereignty marker in his garden. Xuat says by doing so he has been able to locate many of his old comrades. Tran Hieu reports:

(VOVworld) – 80-year-old Tran Duyen Hai lives in a small alley in Hanoi. For more than 30 years, with his own money and efforts Hai has given many unfortunate children a more meaningful life.

(VOVworld) – Nguyen Hong Chuong of Lam Dong province is an amateur engineering inventor. In the last 10 years, he has come up with 7 inventions including 2 machines to improve agricultural productivity and a frame specially designed for growing clean vegetables in urban areas. In 2013, Chuong received the Prime Minister’s certificate of merit for his contributions to Vietnam’s new rural development program.

(VOVworld) – Colonel Hoang Dang Vinh was one of 5 soldiers who captured General De Castries on May 7th, 1954. This historic date witnessed the collapse of the French garrison in Dien Bien Phu and put an end to French colonization of Vietnam and Indochina. Vinh’s 4 comrades have passed away.

(VOVworld) – The new rural development program in Gia Lai province has involved people from all walks of life including war veterans over the last 3 years. Nguyen Van Gac, a war veteran in Grang 2 village, Chu Prong district, has been one of the most enthusiastic individuals in the movement.

(VOVworld) – Lo Thi Doi is one of the former young volunteers in Dien Bien province who took part in the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954. She was active in encouraging the people to provide soldiers with food during the campaign.
