(VOVWORLD) - Shortly after its establishment in 1945, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was forced to wage a nine-year resistance war against French colonialists. Despite limited resources, the Voice of Vietnam (VOV), still in its infancy, worked tirelessly to deliver the messages of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh to the people. These efforts helped bolster the morale and determination of soldiers and people in the struggle for independence and freedom.

(VOVWORLD) - The birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) - 80 years ago, on September 2, 1945 - was a turning point for Vietnam and its people. Just five days later, from a small attic at 128C Dai La Street in Hanoi, the Voice of Vietnam aired its very first broadcast - President Ho Chi Minh’s Declaration of Independence. That moment marked the birth of the national radio station - the Voice of Vietnam.

(VOVWORLD) - The Voice of Vietnam (VOV) has inaugurated its new FM transmitter station atop Phia Oac Mountain in Thanh Cong commune, Cao Bang province. This key facility, one of two projects marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19) and National Day (September 2), is disseminating VOV’s radio programs to Vietnam’s northeastern border region.

(VOVWORLD) - Hoa Binh (Peace) Village was established in 1990 on the campus of Tu Du hospital in Ho Chi Minh City. This is a second home for many children with disabilities, who are the second- and third-generation victims of Agent Orange/dioxin. Here, they are cared for, educated and nurtured with hope for a better future.

(VOVWORLD) - Hang Duong cemetery in Con Dao Special Administrative Zone is the final resting place of thousands of Vietnamese revolutionaries who laid down their lives for national independence and freedom. In July, people from all over Vietnam gather here to pay tribute to the heroic martyrs.

(VOVWORLD) - Quang Tri was one of the most heavily bombed areas during Vietnam’s resistance war for national independence. Today, many bombs and mines are still buried in the ground. To help make the land safe again, a group of women is doing one of the most dangerous jobs in the country. They are part of Vietnam’s first all-female bomb and mine clearance team.

(VOVWORLD) - 36 years ago, the first economic-scientific-technical-service complexes, also known as DK1 platforms, were erected on the southern continental shelf of Vietnam. The DK platforms have stood proud like “steel fortresses” over the years, thanks to the soldiers of the DK1 Battalion under the Naval Region 2 Command, who have braved the storm to protect Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty.

(VOVWORLD) - Truong Sa district, now Truong Sa Special Zone of Khanh Hoa province, is under harsh weather all year round, yet its residents have worked hard to create a fresh and peaceful living space by planting more trees across the islands. In recent years, the authorities and residents of the Truong Sa Special Zone have actively participated in the “Greening Truong Sa” program.
