Nguyen Ba Thuy, Deputy Director of the National Center for Hydro-meteorological Forecast, said that Vietnam has a long coastline and large sovereign waters, so it has a demand for marine forecast for disaster prevention, search and rescue, maritime safety, sea and island sovereignty, and marine economic development.

Vietnam has developed a roadmap to invest in marine observatory system. The hydro-meteorological sector has invested in research and development of forecast technology and received support and technology from other countries.
