(VOVWORLD) - Lieutenant General Dong Sy Nguyen, one of the most distinguished generals of the Vietnam People's Army, passed away at the age of 96 on April 4 after a period of serious illness. He was especially associated with the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail during the anti-US war and with important constructions crucial to national socio-economic development and defense.

(VOVWORLD) - The family of artisan Pham Khac Ha of Van Phuc village in Hanoi, has been involved in silk weaving for 5 generations. Ha himself has been instrumented in reviving a silk craft which was once thought to be dying out.

(VOVWORLD) - Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan, director of the Vietnam University of Agriculture, received the 2018 Kovalevskaya Award for her research and contributions to veterinary medicine. She is the youngest recipient of the award, which honors outstanding female scientists.

(VOVWORLD) - Pianist Trang Trinh was named by Forbes magazine one of the 30 most prominent Vietnamese under the age of 30 in 2015. Trinh has won a number of international music awards and is active in social work.

(VOVWORLD) - Despite fierce seas and danger, 25-year-old fisherman Tran Thanh Ron of Quang Ngai province, rushed out to sea to save crew members of a fishing boat which was sunk by strong waves in the vicinity of Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago in 2017. Ron was awarded the President’s Order of Bravery.

(VOVWORLD) - Agronomist Pham Han Hanh of Mai Son district, Son La province, was one of 53 scientists honored last year for their contributions to the agricultural sector. Hanh has helped many farmers in Vietnam’s northwestern mountains improve their production with his innitiatives and new techniques.

(VOVWORLD) - Sa Pa town in Lao Cai province is beginning to grow more medicinal plants particularly artichokes. Its new interest in medicinal herbs was awakened by Do Tien Sy, the director the Traphaco Joint Stock Company which produces natural healthcare products.
