(VOVWORLD) - People’s Artisan Mo Thi Kit of Lang Son province has been called “a treasure” of Then singing – the unique folk genre practiced by the Tay and Nung ethnic minority groups in Vietnam’s northeastern region. Kit has spent most of her lifetime collecting, memorizing, and singing thousands of Then songs. She made a major contribution to getting Then honored by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

(VOVWORLD) - Lo Thi Ban of the northern mountainous city of Son La is known for her performances of Thai folk songs. She is also passionate about teaching Thai songs to the younger generation in order to preserve Thai folk melodies.

(VOVWORLD) - Writer Son Tung, who penned the famous novel Bup sen xanh (Green Lotus) based on the life of President Ho Chi Minh, has passed away at the age of 93. Tung dedicated his career to writing about President Ho Chi Minh and promoting his image to the world.

(VOVWORLD) - War invalid Nguyen Quang Toan of Nhu Thanh district, Thanh Hoa province, fought in the American war and, later, in the southwestern border defense war in 1979. After returning from the army, Toan focused on production. Since then, he has created many jobs and reduced poverty in his locality.

(VOVWORLD) - Danh Chanh Da, who was born into a poor Khmer family in the Mekong Delta province of Soc Trang, worked hard to obtain a college degree and became an outstanding reporter of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA). He recently received a medal for his professional contributions to international friendship and cooperation.

(VOVWORLD) - Y Yoh Kbuor is the village chief of Kmrong Prong A village, in the Central Highlands city of Buon Ma Thuot. At the age of 80, he is still very active in social work.

(VOVWORLD) - Authorities and residents have been working hard to protect these sea dykes along the western coast of the southernmost province of Ca Mau which are often severely battered by harsh weather. Nguyen Thanh Tuan of Tran Van Thoi district has been a role model in this endeavor.
