In the context of globalization, where nations compete to seize development opportunities, Vietnam is standing at a critical juncture, where it needs to accelerate its progress to catch up and surpass others, striving toward the goal of becoming a high-income, developed nation by 2045. Thus, 2025 is a key year to prepare for this ambitious jump.

Year of acceleration and breakthroughs

“Vietnam's socio-economic policies are in full swing. Now is the time to take action. We need to uphold proactiveness and creativity to grow. National interest must be the top priority. Strong innovation and breakthroughs are much needed.”

“It’s necessary to review the goals and targets for 2025, especially those set for completion within the current term. We must improve what we have done and strive to complete unrealized targets. The Party’s leadership, the Government’s unity, the National Assembly’s support, and the people's consensus form a powerful collective force, ensuring the successful implementation of all set targets.”

Messages from Party General Secretary Tô Lâm and Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính at the start of the year have ignited the determination to reform, to take resolute actions, and create a foundation for the nation to further its strength and position. The pioneering role of the government of action, with its tireless efforts and definitive decisions, is encouraging the entire political system to accelerate and achieve breakthroughs.

To achieve the target GDP growth of 8% in 2025 and create momentum for double-digit growth during 2026-2030, the Government has proposed three strategic breakthroughs, six key tasks, 12 main solution groups, and 185 specific measures. These initiatives emphasize institutional improvements, rapid yet sustainable growth, and a clear roadmap for long-term success.

International optimism about Vietnam's prospects

Vietnam's determination and its achievements in 2024 have drawn widespread praise from international organizations, which hold an optimistic outlook on the country’s economic prospects. Key indicators like the business environment, innovation rankings, and the human development index have risen globally, reflecting Vietnam's resilience and capacity amidst global challenges.

World Bank Country Director in Vietnam, Mariam Sherman, said: "Vietnam's remarkable economic development stands as a testament to the fact that what once seemed impossible can indeed become reality. This is a critical opportunity for Vietnam to upgrade its participation in global value chains by shifting into higher value added manufacturing and services to promote quality job creation and force economic growth, supporting Vietnam's aspirations to become a higher income country by 2045."

The European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham) recently reported its highest Business Confidence Index in over two years. EuroCham Chairman Dominik Meichle said: "We see of course that the Vietnam is offering a lot of opportunities for our business community. We see a stable investment environment. We see a very well educated labor force. We see a government that is very open for dialogue."

Vietnam’s growth has brought optimism to European investors in multilateral cooperation mechanisms including ASEAN cooperation. EU Ambassador to Vietnam, Julien Guerrier, said: "Vietnam was a forerunner in ASEAN and in the sense of the EU-Vietnam relation. Therefore, Vietnam is an important partner in the implementation of our Indo-Pacific strategy, where the EU wants to be more present in the region."

Armed with strong determination and the accomplishments of 2024, particularly the gains made in the 40 years of national renewal, Vietnam is stepping confidently into a new era of national rise, striving for a future of prosperity.
