The Steering Committee is in charge of managing, protecting and promoting heritage values. Its tasks include helping Hai Phong People's Committee direct the development of plans and coordinate activities between departments, localities, organizations and individuals in the management, protection and promotion of world natural heritages.

Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago was recognized as a World Natural Heritage Site by UNESCO in September, 2023, becoming Vietnam's first inter-provincial world natural heritage.
