The leading Vietnamese scientist on the list is Associate Professor Dr. Hoàng Anh Tuấn of Dong Nai University of Technology, who is ranked 438th in the world. This is the second consecutive year he has topped the group of Vietnamese scientists in the global ranking.

Other Vietnamese scientists on the list are: Prof. Dr. Võ Xuân Vinh of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 2,327; Dr. Trần Nguyên Hải of the Duy Tan University, ranked 2,905; Dr. Hoàng Đức Nhật of Duy Tan University, ranked 3,635; Dr. Phạm Thái Bình of the University of Transport Technology, ranked 3,773; Dr. Nguyễn Phúc Cảnh of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 4,727; Prof. Dr. Trần Xuân Bách of the Hanoi Medical University, ranked 5,085; Prof. Dr. of Science Nguyễn Đình Đức of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi, ranked 5,750; and Prof. Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Hùng of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, ranked 9,612.

Associate Professor Dr. Lê Hoàng Sơn of the Vietnam National University, Hanoi leads the group of Vietnamese scientists in the world’s top 100,000. Other Vietnamese scientists honored are: Associate Professor Dr. Nguyễn Xuân Phương, Rector of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, ranked 22,613); Prof. Dr. Sử Đình Thành, Director of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 34,769.

The global ranking database uses a composite index that takes into account number of citations (excluding self-citations), h-index, hm-index, and author position in publications. Scientists are ranked in 22 major fields and 174 subfields, with the selection threshold being the global Top 100,000 or the Top 2% in each subfield.

Having 9 scientists in the top 10,000 is an encouraging sign for Vietnam’s research community. It affirms Vietnam’s fundamental and comprehensive reforms in higher education, science and technology and strong integration with the world’s advanced research standards.
